MAMMA MIA THE MUSICAL! The most successful musical presents a captivating musical comedy with ABBA's 22 biggest hits as sophisticated and imaginative as interwoven with the story, as if the songs were written solely for this musical. The unconventional musical comedy about love, family, friendship and fatherhood, with the magical ABBA classics, has broken all records since it premiered on Broadway in 2001 at the Winter Garden Theatre. It has since been become one of the most popular shows worldwide and of all time.

Donna lives on a small Greek island with her 20-year-old daughter Sophie and runs a tavern. In her mother's diary, Sophie discovers that she has three possible fathers and decides that the uncertainty needs to end before she marries her childhood sweetheart, Sky. She invites her three likely fathers to the wedding ceremony to find out who her father is, and the guessing game begins. Extra momentum enters into the story as Donna's best friends arrive and memories of her days in the singing trio "Donna and the Dynamos" come back to life.

With the incorporation of exciting ABBA hits, even less-than-enthusiastic theater-goers’ moods are instantly boosted. The globally acclaimed original musical Mamma Mia! is a touching show that has electrified more than 60 million people in 440 cities and 16 different languages since its premiere in London in 1999. 22 superhits from ABBA like "Dancing Queen," "Take a Chance On Me" and, of course, "Mamma Mia" tell the story. The screen version, with stars such as Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan, also won over an audience of millions and became the most successful musical film of all time. The second part of the film hit movie theaters in 2018 with huge success.

Cast & Music

ABBA conquered the stage and what followed is not just music history, but rather a legend. To this day, ABBA has sold more than 350 million albums worldwide. After their triumph at the Grand Prix, Agnetha Fältskog, Benny Andersson, Björn Ulvaeus and Anni-Frid Lyngstad were propelled onto the world stage when "Waterloo" topped the pop charts worldwide. Over the next eight years, ABBA has recorded countless hit singles, platinum albums and played innumerable sold out concerts. Their many hits have lost none of their popularity over the years, with some even seeing a surge in popularity more recently. "ABBA Gold" and "More ABBA Gold" are the world's best-selling albums to date. With around 3,500 albums sold worldwide every day, ABBA's success remains unbroken.

The idea to transform the ABBA hits into a musical started in 1994. Inspired by the compositions of ABBA band members Benny and Björn, and combined with the turbulently humorous story by Catherine Johnson, Judy Craymer produced an exciting musical which is stunningly charming, humorous and touching at the same time, bringing the biggest hits of the ABBA era into a new context of content. The secret to the unique success lies in the total involvement of the audience, who find themselves swept up in the plot and the songs. The audience becomes part of the musical by singing along to the best of ABBA songs such as “Take A Chance On Me,” “The Winner Takes It All,” “Dancing Queen” and “Super Trouper,” just to name a few. The musical is about real people in real situations that the viewer can relate to, such as the search for one’s parents, lost identity, the intergenerational conflict, and old love that doesn't rust.

Audiences and critics everywhere fell in love with Mamma Mia! The success of the musical intrigued film makers enough to adapt the story for the silver screen. The New York Times stated in 2001 when the musical first premiered, “Mamma Mia! manipulates you, for sure, but it creates the feeling that you're somehow a part of the manipulative process. And while it may be widely described as a hoot by theatergoers embarrassed at having enjoyed it, it gives off a moist-eyed sincerity that is beyond camp”. Every time the house lights dim and the curtain rises, there is no doubt that the audience will have a blast.

Three possible fathers. Two unforgettable days. One irresistible musical. Mamma Mia! is a romantic musical comedy featuring the 22 biggest ABBA hits, including" Dancing Queen,” “The Winner Takes It All,” “Knowing Me, Knowing You” and of course “Mamma Mia.” It's about the courage to make your dreams come true, about love, friendship, family and the importance of the past but also the promise of happiness in the future.
